Whole Self Healing Through Guided Meditation

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in my first session?

The first session is more of a conversation than a deep dive. We’ll discuss what’s bringing you to therapy, your goals, and any questions you have about the process. It’s also a chance for you to get a sense of my style and see if we’re a good fit.

How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?

Most sessions are 50–55 minutes and occur weekly, especially at the beginning. As progress builds, we may shift to biweekly or monthly sessions depending on your needs and goals.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?

Pivot Point Counseling offers telehealth sessions via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform for clients anywhere in Maryland. This allows for flexibility, privacy, and convenience.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. I am credentialed with several Maryland payors, including Aetna, CareFirst, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare/Optum, Kaiser Permanente, and others. You’re also welcome to self-pay if you prefer more privacy or flexibility. I’ll provide a Good Faith Estimate upon request in compliance with federal guidelines.

What if I’m not sure therapy will help me?

That’s completely okay—and very common. My job isn’t to convince you, but to create a space where you can explore, learn, and grow at your own pace. You don’t have to know exactly what you need to start; therapy can help you figure that out.

What types of issues do you specialize in?

I work primarily with adults who are navigating anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation, and life transitions. Many clients come to therapy feeling burned out, stuck, or disconnected—and leave with a clearer sense of self, healthier coping strategies, and renewed confidence.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

I use a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)—along with mindfulness and somatic awareness techniques. This combination helps address both the mind and body for lasting change.

What’s your cancellation policy?

I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Sessions canceled with less notice may be subject to a late-cancellation fee. Life happens, and communication is key—so just reach out if something unexpected comes up.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

That depends on your goals and the nature of what we’re working on. Some clients come for a few months to tackle a specific issue; others continue longer-term for ongoing growth and support. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy is meeting your needs.

What if I’ve had a bad experience with therapy before?

You’re not alone in that. A good fit matters more than anything else. My approach is collaborative, transparent, and grounded in mutual respect. We’ll move at your pace, and I’ll always welcome feedback so the process works for you.
